In a thrilling final encounter, Australia was able to pip out New Zealand and won the final by 8 wickets. Even test cricket matches were progressing in full swing.

2022 also has some exciting cricket events as international cricket has already been planned throughout the year. In this article, we are going to take a quick look at the global cricket events for 2022.

1. The Ashes

Taking into consideration the poor performance of England in the first two matches of the 5-test series, if the Three Lions win the third test, they have all to play for this year.

The Ashes is taken to be the test series with fierce competition. It is held once every 2 years. The hosting is shuffled between Australia and England. A total of 71 Ashes series have been held until now and 6 ended in a draw. Australia has an edge by winning 33 times, while England has won 32 times.

The previous series had ended in a two-all-drawn. This means that Australia retained the Ashes crown. The 4th test is going to start on 5th January in Sydney and the 5th test will be held on 14th January in Perth.

Also, the England and Aussie women’s Ashes series have been scheduled for the following years, which includes one of the test matches on the 27th of January. Thereafter, they will play three T20 matches from 4th-10th February.

2. India’s South Africa Tour

India is going to be a part of a hotly contested test series. It will be a three-test series tour to South Africa. The first one was played on 26th December in Centurion’s SuperSport Park Cricket Ground.

India was unable to win the test series in South Africa. So, Virat Kohli might hope to be the first Indian captain to overcome the insurmountable odds and win in South Africa. The Indian cricketers are high after their one-nil series victory over New Zealand. Soon, they are hoping that the internal struggles in South Africa cricket will help them with their quest.

The second test started on 5th January and the third test is due on 11th January in Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Ground.

3. World Cup Action

2022 is going to see some fast-paced cricket in the ICC Women’s World Cup and Men’s T20 World Cup. The women’s and men’s World Cup is going to start in March and October, respectively.

The first match will be played on 18th October, while the final will be played on 13th November. The whole tournament will have 45 games. There are 6 spots left, which will be contested in 2 different Qualifier Groups that will be decided in February, providing more action for the cricket fans.

This is one of the most popular cricket tournaments in the world. The Indian Premier League is going to return with its 15th season in 2022. Surely, the contest is going to produce some fast-paced and hard-hitting cricket hosting players from across the world in 10 franchise teams from across the globe.

But the starting date of IPL is yet to be set. However, the tournament is either going to begin in late March or in the first week of April. The teams have already started preparing for the tournament as the player auction just concluded.

The board is yet to decide the venue of the tournament. But according to the rumor going round, Chennai might be hosting the event this year. So, playing on the home ground will give CSK an added advantage.
