IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed Australian captain Pat Cummins as the new captain of its team for IPL 2024. Cummins will replace South Africa's Aiden Markram as captain. Markram captained Hyderabad in the 2023 season.
Pat Cummins has not captained in IPL or any high level T20 cricket before but he has been rewarded for his successful captaincy for Australia. Last year, under the captaincy of Cummins, Australia won the ICC World Test Championship and ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 by defeating India.
Cummins had withdrawn from the last IPL season to focus on international cricket. However, this time he participated in the IPL 2024 auction and was bought by Hyderabad for a sum of Rs 20 crores.
SRH has to play its first match in IPL 2024 against KKR on 23 March in Kolkata.
